Penalties and Fines
Penalties can include the costs incurred by the City to fix uncorrected violations and shall include a state treasury justice system assessment of $10.00 for each violation, as well as civil fines up to $10,000.
What are the Payment Options?
Citizens can pay the fine and or judgment amount in person with cash, bank/personal check, or money order (made out to the City of Port Huron) at the City’s Treasurers Office located on the first floor of the City Building, Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m 810-984-9722. Checks or money orders can be mailed to the Treasury Department at 100 McMorran Blvd, Port Huron, MI 48060.
What if payment is not made?
If the blight violation is ignored and the defendant or their attorney do not appear at the hearing, a Decision and Order and Judgment by Default will be issued finding the defendant responsible for the blight violation.
If the defendant fails to pay the amount of the Decision and Order and Judgment, collection actions will be commenced, which may include the garnishment of wages, attachment of bank accounts and assets, and imposition of the judgment liens upon real property.
